Airlines
use network planning, also known as origin and destination (O&D) planning,
to make and implement strategic decisions based on the size and value
of traffic flows within their networks. Optimal network planning can lead
to increased market share and decreased risk when launching new services.
Carriers that make good use of network planning levers can gain market
share at the expense of their less sophisticated competitors.
This course
explains the theory of effective airline network planning and provides
"hands-on" techniques to solve network planning problems using
Lufthansa Systems state of the art network planning tool NetLine/Plan™.
The approach used is based on managing passenger origin and destination.
The course covers network types, analysis of the competition, strengths
and weaknesses of hubs, network performance analysis, management control
systems for network managers, challenges of implementing network planning,
and planning time horizons.
